The PowellI am a graduate of A&M Consolidated class of 2008 and a graduate of Texas A&M University class of 2012 (Whoop!) When I was in high school I took Mr. Taylor's Computer Maintenance and Telecom classes which sparked my interest in technology. I began working summer jobs with various repair shops around town and continued to work in IT through college. Even though I studied History and Anthropology at TAMU, IT remained my passion. I eventually became the head student IT for the 12thMan Foundation where I worked until I was hired here at AMCHS. I currently teach Principles of Information Technology, Computer Maintenance and Video Game Design. I also sponsor the Tiger Robotics team, the SkillsUSA IT team and the Video Game Design club, and host student trips through the EF Tours program most summers (Costa Rica 2017!).
When I find a way to escape the duties of my classroom I like to spend as much time as I can at home with my wife and puppy. My wife and I dated through high school and college and go married after we graduated for Texas A&M. She teaches 2nd grade and is the reason I got into teaching at the high school level. My puppy, Ranger, is a German Shepard, Shiba-Inu, Shar Pei mix; which means 80% of the time he is a big wrinkly puddle on the floor and 20% of the time he is guarding the house from squirrels, rabbits, the neighbors unloading groceries, or anyone trying to clean up his fur. He likes to talk to anyone who will listen, and will gladly carry on a conversation from his puddle form on the floor. As a technology teacher it should come to no ones surprise that I am a huge geek. My classroom is filled with posters and toys from movies, comics, video games and literature. According to my wife I play entirely too many video games although she does like to join in the weekly board game nights with our friends. |
